Ottawa, ON – March 10, 2026 – Ottawa Community Housing Corporation (OCH) has awarded the construction contract for the Somerset Street East redevelopment to Beaudoin Construction, advancing purpose-built supportive housing in Sandy Hill.

The new four-storey building will provide 23 studio homes for residents who require additional supports. With on-site services and shared spaces integrated from the outset, it is designed to support recovery, build independence, and strengthen community connections. This addition will expand supportive housing options in Ottawa and contribute to the city’s broader housing system.

Replacing the original 1902 structure, the building will feature a mix of accessible and standard studio apartments, dedicated office space for service providers, barrier-free access, multipurpose spaces for programming and workshops, and communal amenities to support daily living and community engagement.

Designed to Passive House standards, it will incorporate energy-efficient systems, rooftop solar panels, advanced ventilation, and a durable envelope to support long-term sustainability and strong operational performance.

Construction is scheduled to begin in Spring 2026.

The initiative is made possible through partnerships with the City of Ottawa, the Government of Ontario, and the Government of Canada through Housing Accelerator funding to help address urgent supportive housing needs and strengthen Ottawa’s housing continuum.
